At the end of the program the student shall be able to:

1. Define the GMA welding process.
2. Identify the correct polarity to use for the GMAW process.
3. List the advantages and disadvantages of GMAW.
4. Define metal transfer for the GMAW process.
5. Describe the three (3) methods of metal transfer.
6. Identify the equipment used in the GMAW process.
7. Know the gases used in the GMAW process.
8. Make quality welds in the four (4) positions. (Flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead)

Week No.1:

• Principles of the GMAW welding process.
• Set up equipment and become familiar with the electrical terms.
• Become familiar with various gases used in the GMA welding.
• Set machines for different types of metal transfer.
• Become familir with different polarities.

• Become familiar with the different types of consumables.
• Become familiar with various types of wire feeders.
• Install drive rolls, contact tubes and adapters.
• Install regulators and flow meters.

• Determine the proper wire for the flat position welding.
• Practice running beads in the flat position only.
• Make fillet welds on lap joints in the flat position.
• Make butt welds in the flat position.

• Make welds in the out of position: horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
• Make horizontal fillet welds, butt welds.
• Make vertical welds on lap joints, butt welds.
• Make overhead welds on butt joints, lap joints and T-joints.
• Identify various types of weld defects.
