High Pressure Pipe Welding Course Outline

Duration:	Six (6) Weeks
Tuition Fee:	$1,600
Entrance Requirements:	Considerable experience at the Journeyperson level and certified or previously held certification in the SMAW process.
Maximum Student Capacity:	16
Requirements for Successful Completion:	Pass four(4)-position bend or radiograph test

*Upon successful competion of the program,the student is awarded with a certificate.

Objective:

At the conclusion of this program, the student shall have the practical skills required to:

Successfully perform quality welds on schedule 40 and schedule 80 pipe in the flat, vertical, horizontal and overhead positions.
Identify the correct polarity to use for the SMAW process in pipe welding.
Exlplain the electrode classifications.
Explain and understand procedure qualifications.
Understand acceptance requirements.
Understand piping codes/standards.

Week No.1:

Week No.2:

Week No.3-6:

Shop pipe layout.
Make welds in the 1G position, pipe horizontal rolled welded flat.
Make welds in the 2G position, pipe vertical weld horizontal(Not rotated during welding).
Make welds in the 5G position, pipe horizontal fixed flat weld, vertical, overhead.
Make welds in the 6G position, pipe inclined fixed(45º +/- 5º).
Identify various types of surface defects.
Cut coupons to specifications and bend test to ASME code.

* All pipe shall be 6" and 8" schedule 40 and 80 pipe.
