Welding Upgrading Course Outline

Duration: 8 Weeks; pending government approval.
Entrance Requirements: Previous experience as a welder, or have completed a basic welding program. The student must have good hand/eye coordination and have the manipulative ability to pass a four position CWB plate test.

Objective:

The objective of this program is to upgrade the welder's skills and enter the workforce with the confidence and ability to produce quality welds that meet industry standards.

Course Expectation:

Students will be required to pass written exams on the Sheilded Metal Arc (SMAW) process, blueprint reading and welding symbols.
All shop testing shall be visually inspected and bend tested.

Topcs:

  1. Shop safety.
  2. Fundamentals of the Sheilded Metal Arc (SMAW) process.
  3. Electrodes and Consumables.
  4. Blueprint reading/Welding symbols.
  5. Horizontal, flat, vertical and overhead positions for the SMAW process.
  6. Distortion and stresses in weldements.
  7. Power Sources.
